Accepted File Types in Windows Movie Maker

Video: Your best bet for compatible files would be Windows Media Video files (.wmv). They're not the smallest, but not the hugest either. Only certain types of avis can go in—probably DV should have no issues. DIVX also works, but isn't the best quality.

Audio: Okay, most MP3s shouldn't be a problem, but when you have the one song that is around eight minutes instead of three, you should take that file and convert it to a Windows Media Audio file (.wma). Some mp3s just aren't able to be accepted by WMM, but most tend to be.
